Frequently asked questions

How listing review, expiry, consumer rights and privacy work here — and the checks worth doing before you buy anything with a battery in it.

General questions

Is there a fee to use eRideList for posting, renting, or offering services?

No — posting, renting and offering services on eRideList are completely free. There are no listing fees, no success fees, no commission from buyers, sellers or service providers, and no paid promotion. We never handle your money, so when you agree a price the whole amount goes to the seller.

How do I list an e-ride for sale, rent, or to offer services?

Create a free account, then choose Post an Ad. Pick the category your item belongs to, then choose what you are offering — For Sale, For Rent, Service, Free, and for cars also Wreck or Wanted. The form then asks for the details that matter for that category, such as motor power, top speed, battery condition, odometer or build year. Add up to 10 photos of the actual item and submit. A person reviews it before it goes live.

Post an ad — it takes a few minutes.

Can I post anything that's not an e-ride item?

No. eRideList only accepts e-rides, electric vehicles and hybrid EVs — plus services, parts and rentals connected to them. E-rides means personal mobility devices powered by an electric battery and ridden by a person: e-bikes, e-scooters, e-skateboards, e-foils, one-wheelers and the like. Anything outside that is removed at review, so a petrol-only car, a remote-controlled toy or a general household item will not be published.

Can I post Hybrid EVs?

Yes. Fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and conventional hybrids can all be listed, and each has its own category so buyers can filter for the one they want. On the Post Ad form and the category buttons these appear as EV (fully electric), PH-EV (plug-in hybrid) and H-EV (hybrid). What is not accepted is a vehicle with no electric drive at all.

Are there any restrictions on how many postings or photos I can add?

There is no limit on how many listings you can post, and no limit on how many times you can relist. Each listing takes up to 10 photos. We do ask that every listing is a genuine separate item — posting the same item several times to get more exposure is treated as a duplicate and removed.

How long does my posting last? Will it expire automatically after a number of days?

A listing runs for 30 days from the day it is approved, then expires automatically. About seven days before that we email you a reminder with a Renew link, and renewing extends it another 30 days without needing another review, because nothing about the listing has changed. If it does expire it simply comes off the site — you can bring it back any time by editing and resubmitting it, which goes through review again.

How do I know the e-ride is in good condition?

You do not, until you check. Our review confirms a listing follows our rules; it is not an inspection of the item. Ask the seller about battery age, range now versus when new, charge cycles, any crash or water damage, and whether the original charger and certification marking are included. Then inspect it in person, ride or drive it, and check the battery and charger carry a recognised certification mark before you pay.

Our rules and battery safety page lists the certification marks worth looking for.

Is the price shown negotiable?

That is up to the seller, and they tell you. When a seller enters a price they choose Negotiable or Fixed price, and whichever they picked is shown on the listing. If a listing shows no price at all it is because that kind of ad does not carry one — Free, Service, Wreck and Wanted listings have no price field.

What if I mistakenly duplicate a listing? Can I delete it?

Yes. Go to My Ads, find the listing and choose Delete. You will be asked to confirm, because deleting is permanent and takes the listing's photos and messages with it. If you would rather keep it but take it out of view, use Pause instead — a paused listing stops showing in search and can be resumed later.

My Ads is where every listing you have posted is managed.

How can I delete my eRideList account?

Email support and ask us to close it. There is no self-service delete button — account closures are handled by a person. We will close the account and remove your listings, but we may retain your listing history, messages and moderation records for up to six years so we can still answer a dispute, an investigation or a lawful request about dealings you were part of.

What we keep and why is set out in the Privacy Policy. Write to support@eridelist.com.au.

Are there any restrictions on e-rides in Australia?

Yes, and they differ by state. Pedal-assisted e-bikes capped at 250W that cut out at 25 km/h are legal across Australia. E-scooters and similar devices are regulated state by state, the power and speed limits are not the same, and privately owned e-scooters cannot lawfully be ridden in public places in every state. Check your own state's rules before you buy, not after.

Our rules and battery safety page summarises the limits and links to each state authority, and every listing shows how that device compares against each state.

Listing management

How long does it take for my posting to go live on the website?

A person reads every listing before it is published, and we aim to do that within 24 hours. You will get an email as soon as yours is approved. We are a small team, so at busy times it can take a little longer.

What happens if my posting isn't approved?

We email you and tell you which rule it fell foul of — for example a prohibited item, a misleading or inaccurate description, photos that are unclear or not of the actual item, contact details in the wrong field, a suspected scam, a duplicate, or a battery safety concern. Fix the issue, then edit and resubmit it and it goes back through review.

Why does editing my ad send it back for review?

Because the review applies to what is published now, not to what was published last week. Editing sets a listing back to pending and it is reviewed again, which we aim to do within 24 hours. Renewing an unchanged listing does not trigger a review, because nothing about it has changed.

Can I pause a listing, or mark it as sold?

Both. From My Ads you can Pause a listing to take it out of search and Resume it later, or mark it Sold. A sold listing keeps a red SOLD marker, stops appearing in search results and no longer shows a Contact Seller button, then is removed automatically at the end of its 30-day window.

Buying

Do you check that listings are genuine?

A person reviews every listing before it goes live against our content rules. That is not verification: we do not confirm that an item exists, that it is in the described condition, that the seller owns it, that it is free of finance, or that it is roadworthy or legal to use where you live. Always inspect an item and make your own checks before paying.

The Terms and Conditions set out exactly what our review does and does not cover.

What consumer rights do I get when I buy?

It depends who you buy from. Buying from a business, the full Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply — acceptable quality, matching the description, fitness for purpose — and the seller cannot contract out of them. Buying privately, most of those guarantees do not apply and there is no cooling-off period. Three do still apply even in a private sale: the seller must have clear title, must be able to give you undisturbed possession, and must disclose any security interest over the item.

Should I run a PPSR check before buying a vehicle?

Yes. A Personal Property Securities Register search costs about $2 and shows whether money is owed on a vehicle. If you buy an encumbered vehicle without searching, a financier may be able to repossess it from you even though you paid the seller in full. The search also flags written-off and stolen status.

Search at ppsr.gov.au.

How do I contact a seller?

Use the Contact Seller form on the listing. Your message goes to the seller's eRideList inbox and they can reply there. A seller's phone number and email are only shown on a listing if that seller has chosen to publish them; otherwise messaging is the way to reach them.

Common scams and fake trades

How can I avoid and report scams for e-rides and EVs?

Be cautious with anyone who refuses to meet in person, pressures you to pay immediately, wants payment by gift card, wire transfer or cryptocurrency, claims to be overseas or working on a rig, or offers to ship an item sight-unseen at a suspiciously good price. Never pay a deposit for something you have not seen, and never send identity documents to a stranger. To report something, use the Report this listing link on the listing itself — it reaches our moderation queue and is confidential. We aim to remove unsafe or recalled products within 2 business days and to respond to complaints about unlawful content within 7 days.

Our common scams and fake trades page walks through each one in detail, including the PayID scam aimed at sellers. Scams can also be reported to Scamwatch. Note that we cannot recover money or settle a dispute between users — see our Terms for what we can do.

Selling

What is the difference between a private and a business seller?

A private seller is selling their own item as a one-off. A business seller is selling in trade or commerce — which includes selling repeatedly for profit, even without a shopfront. Business sellers must display their business name and ABN, hold any licence their state requires such as a motor dealer licence, and honour the full consumer guarantees. Choosing the wrong one on your listing does not change your legal position.

Will my phone number and email be public?

No, not unless you choose it. Contact details are hidden by default and buyers reach you through in-app messaging. If you want them shown on your listings, turn on the option in Account settings.

What do I need to include when selling an e-bike or e-scooter?

The motor power in watts, the top speed, and the safety approval or certification marking for the device, battery and charger. New South Wales safety and information standards for e-micromobility products have been fully enforced since 1 February 2026 and apply to second-hand sales and to products displayed for sale online. You should also check the national recalls register before listing a used device.

The accepted standards are listed on our rules and battery safety page; recalls are at productsafety.gov.au/recalls.

Do I need a safety or roadworthy certificate to sell my car?

It depends on your state. Queensland requires a safety certificate and its number must appear in the advertisement. Victoria requires a roadworthy certificate, valid for 30 days. The ACT and Northern Territory require an inspection for older vehicles. New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania generally do not require one to sell a registered light vehicle privately. Every state requires you to lodge a notice of disposal after the sale.

Can I get a page for my business?

Yes. Set a shop name in your Account settings and you get a public shop page listing everything you have for sale, which you can link to from anywhere.

Writing for the blog

Can I write a blog post on eRideList?

Yes. Anyone with an account can write for the blog — a build, a review, a repair, a trip, or something you learned the hard way. Go to the blog and choose Write a post. It is free, like everything else here, and there is no application process.

Start at Write a post.

Does my post go live straight away?

No. A person reads every post before it is published, the same as a listing, and we aim to do that within 24 hours. You will get an email when it is approved, with a link to it. If we cannot publish it we email you the reason so you can fix it and resubmit.

Why would a post be rejected?

The usual reasons are advertising dressed up as a post, link spam, content that is not about e-rides, EVs or hybrid EVs, something copied from elsewhere, images you do not have the right to publish, unsafe advice about batteries or charging, misleading claims, or a post too thin to be worth reading. None of these are a strike against your account — most posts just need a change.

Can I add photos and videos?

One cover image, as a JPEG, PNG or WebP file up to 5MB. For video, paste a link: a YouTube link plays inside your post, and TikTok, Instagram or Facebook links show as a button that opens on that platform. We do not embed those three because their embeds load third-party tracking scripts, and we promise elsewhere on this site that we run none.

Use your own photos. Our Terms and Conditions require you to have the right to publish anything you upload.

How do I format my post?

You do not, and that is deliberate. Posts are plain text: write normally and leave a blank line between paragraphs. There is no bold, no headings and no links in the body. It keeps every post looking consistent, and it means nothing anyone types can break the page for a reader.

How long does a post need to be?

At least 200 characters and at most 20,000 — roughly a couple of paragraphs at the short end and a long feature at the other. The title needs to be between 8 and 140 characters. A short summary is optional; leave it blank and we use your opening lines on the blog index.

Can I change or remove my post after it is published?

Email support and we will do it for you. There is no self-service edit screen for blog posts yet — unlike listings, which you can edit yourself from My Ads. If we change a published post it goes back through review first, because the review applies to what is published now, not to what was published last week.

Write to support@eridelist.com.au with the post title and what you want changed.

Who can see that I wrote it?

Posts are published under a member byline, not your full name or email address, and every community post carries a note saying it is a member's own experience rather than advice from eRideList. Your email address is never shown.

Account and privacy

What information of mine is public?

Your listings, their photos, the suburb or region you selected, your display name and your seller rating. Your email address and phone number stay private unless you deliberately turn on the option to show them on your listings.

Can I sign in with Google or Facebook?

Yes, or with an email address and password. If you use Google or Facebook we receive your name and email address so we can create or match your account — we do not receive your password or anything you post there, and we never post on your behalf.

Can I stop the emails?

New-message notification emails are optional and controlled in Account settings. Essential emails about your own listings — approval, rejection, expiry reminders and password resets — are part of running an account and continue while the account is open.

How do I make a complaint?

Email support with the details and we will investigate and respond. For a privacy complaint specifically we respond within 30 days, and if you are not satisfied you can escalate to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. For a dispute with another user, your state fair trading body, the relevant tribunal or the ACCC are the places that can actually help — we are not a party to your sale and cannot award a remedy.

Write to support@eridelist.com.au — support is email only, and we answer on a best-efforts basis.

Still stuck?
